So, assuming gematsu's translation of the latest Hajimari news is accurate, Matteus is the strongest swordsman in the Empire? I guess with Victor somewhat inhibited by his injuries, it'd make sense if Matteus took the new spot. I'm guessing Aurelia is separate in that she's a swordswoman, but you have to imagine she'd be itching for a throwdown. Also, was CS3 the first time he gets namedropped?
The Japanese is a bit more ambiguous and says that he's at the pinnacle of swordsmanship in the Empire... which doesn't say anything about who else might be sharing the view up there with him. He was the personal bodyguard to the Emperor so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that he'd be one of the best if not the best. That said, did he surpass the acknowledged greatest badass in Erebonian history? Not that I recall... xD
And yeah, CS3 is the first time he's named. I mean, by implication Mueller has to have a father and we've know his family's duty since SC (The 3rd makes it explicit) but I don't believe Matteus is actually mentioned in any direct way before CS3. In The 3rd, Mueller only mentions that he used to spar with his uncle whenever he wanted to clear his head after Olivier did something stupid. We can probably assume it's either because he didn't want to take his father's time or he figured the one-sided beatdown wouldn't give him enough time to get the desired mental relief.
Well, Kondo has straight up said in an interview that C is male, so I guess it's time to give up on that Carnelia theory. I know he can be a bit...economical with the truth sometimes, but with such an either or question?
Do we even know if it's someone we know to begin with? Might be like the first C where you don't know anything about the character behind the mask until the game in question itself.
One gripe people have with the series which I can't deny as a valid point is how often you're given a boss that you may or may not beat in-game battles only for them to be not even trying or suddenly get serious, or whatever and some NPC has to swoop in and save the day. I guess that's one thing I really like about sky. That happens early on, but as you progress it happens less and you really feel like Estelle grows in personal competence. But future games kinda make you feel like you're on a treadmill where it doesn't matter how much you grow. Someone else has to save your behind constantly (not sure about crossbell yet though). Which isn't so bad if it's done like an overwhelming foe is defeated when you get backup, but it's always, oh look, your entire team is giving up in despair at this foe, what ever will you do? Oh look, this npc hero came along and 1shot them without breaking a sweat. Noooo. (Well I guess in CS they don't often get 1shot, it's often an off-screen 'you go ahead I got this' thing but still).
Just bringing that up because C's identity needs to be someone so that this can happen. THAT is something I should have said the first time I suppose. I only thought of it now because I recently read a complaint a bout this very topic recently and then I saw this post and I was like, derp, oh yeah.
Also, question regarding the screenshot lists. A later one features whom I presume is Novartis and Vita. I realize it's probably a spoiler but (spoiler of stuff that happens between cs2 and 3)
It's entirely possible that their VA hasn't been revealed because it would give away the meta-twist that they haven't voiced anyone previously.
On the spoilered question:
One other thing that bears remembering, just as a general point: Falcom sometimes doctors screenshots and gives us things that they don't intend to actually appear in the games, to keep us guessing. CS3 for example had one of Sara apparently tailing Lechter through the streets of Raquel which never happened, and another showing McBurn standing in a room full of red Pleromas. Neither appear in the game. Most of the time the screenshots do represent something that we'll see in the game but every so often Falcom decides to mess with our heads.

Is this a new one I haven't seen yet, or is it the one where he discussed the 'Hermit' route just after we got the first details? Because in Japanese, exact words can hide a lot, I would not put it past Kondo to play that game with us with C's gender and Guan's translation comes secondhand so what was reported via Hokanko could be a paraphrase that omitted the possibility of some weasel wording. I haven't seen the original translation so I can't be sure; maybe I just really want the idea to be true because playing a game through as even a disguised Ein who's holding back would be pretty damned awesome. xD
Agreed, I'm really hoping when that mask comes off Toval is present and his jaw is appropriately fused with the floor! As for the interview, it was a video with Dengeki. Granted, I'm going off of the translation I saw in a reddit thread, so it's entirely possible they missed out on some subtelty.
My visual memory is bulldung. I dont remember if it had purple hair like Renne or white hair. But I recently saw a clip with that new doll girl in Hajimari and it immediately reminded me of the doll I just snagged in zero for the antique lady. Am I off my rocker?

Time to go digging through that then. xD
EDIT: And done. Kondo gives what looks like the straightest possible answer to the question... except that he ended his sentence with a rhetorical particle that leaves a bit of wiggle room. Basically, he could be saying 'Well C is obviously male' or 'Don't you think C is male?' more or less. So he didn't quite shut the door on that one.

No you are not. People were speculating there's a connection there since the first screenshot where it was obvious she had doll joints and Falcom confirmed it the minute they told us her name was Lapis Rosenberg. Which has me excited because there's an unanswered question from Ao relating to the dolls that she could possibly answer for us.

Hah, the man's incorrigible! Well, I'm back on the Carnelia train. It'll be interesting to see how they modulate the voice to hide who it is. I was playing Fire Emblem Three Houses recently and it had a similar thing, but the voice distortion wasn't quite good enough and I was able to tell the gender of the person in question and figure out who it was with a couple of other clues. On the other hand, in CS1 I was convinced C was Rufus, because I was so sure the two sounded identical, so my guesses are a crapshoot!
Falcom released some product details on Hajimari today. Preorders of the regular and limited physical editions will come with the usual mini-soundtrack (the cover art is Nadia and Swin). The LE is named the 'Platinum Meister Box' which is probably a nod to Jorg Rosenberg's title. The box is patterned after Lapis' case and if it's anywhere near as cool as the Ys IX LE box with its prison motif and cool heat-sensitive effect, I'll be very happy. Aside from the game it will include a two-disc collection of vocal songs from the series' first fifteen years, a 'Zemurian Heroes 2020-2021' desk calendar with new images and a collection of twenty four semi-transparent mini-posters featuring character illustrations. The preliminary art shows the main quartet from the Hermit route, Rean, Elise and Alfin from the Hero route and Wazy, Noel, Rixia and Arios from the Liberator route.
Between being one of the characters to get an art piece and an earlier screenshot of Orie/Aurier talking about Elise's rapier style, they might be hinting that the latter is returning as a playable character in the game...
Also updated today was the next chapter of Three and Nine, with art showing the duo in action.
That music disc reminds me: here's hoping Hajimari gets an actual final boss theme this time. 3&4 had some of my favourite final dungeon themes (Spiral of Erebos and To the Future), so the lack of anything unique there was baffling. I remember someone (possibly Yotaka!) saying Loa Erebonius's theme would've fit for CS4 and my Lord listening to it again, it'd have been perfect. Especially with how it uses Pulse Towards Tomorrow, what better way to bookend the arc?
I want playable Alfin again qq. I just don't like Emma's playstyle as my big magic nuke, But Alfin fits the bill. I mean I like her more as a character too but I prefer using Alisa over Emma as a caster nuke, but she's more hybrid kinda (I kinda think she's better just cuz she's so much faster but her ats is not THAT much worse, and I like her crafts more, Molten rain is weak as fuu but its area is huge and is great at tagging lots of enemies for status and/or at least 1 crit somewhere). But playable Alfin would give me the pure caster that I want =P.
Elliott is fine, but the forced colour slots on his orbments aren't ideal. I rather like red since I want lots on a caster anyway for purgatory flame and ingenuity.
@jumpyjunpei Might have been me you heard it from, I know I've said it before and it would be an ideal song for it in every respect. The name's perfect for the boss battle, it sounds suitably epic and if you're gonna reuse something, picking a song we haven't heard for several games beats recycling a song that we just heard half an hour ago.
Since there's going to be new music I sure hope that at least one of the tracks is going to be a properly unique final battle theme. I really don't know why the back half of Cold Steel didn't. Maybe they thought that giving us the two unique themes for the Normal Ending final battles counted (which were quite epic in their own right) and they decided they could cheat on the True Ending music?
I want playable Alfin again
Well, she's one of the twenty four to get a mini-poster so...
No final boss music for cs4 too? dang. mental-pre-ordered cancelled! Falcom why you so lazy about making music?! (not serious =P ).
It is odd though.
I saw the Alfin poster, but it mentioned main characters, not playable characters, which. PROBABLY is the same thing, but instead of getting my hopes up and assuming it's a done deal, I'll just get my hopes up and go 'I want I want I want' =P. At the very least I hope she's playable more than in CS2, or Estelle is in Zero, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get a lot of that, though- primarily characters that are only playable in certain 'episodes' or only at certain points in one of the three main branches of the game.
My hopes are that the True Reverie Corridor will bring all those characters together and make them all playable.
(And Yotaka was right on that comment he made from when that info was revealed- I did lose my mind over that bit of news.)
Also, hi.
Hi indeed! I remember you posted when the forum was brand new about something or other being gay or something, and never again. I'm sure we were all sad you were hiding after that. sounds like it was years ago but probably only 2 or 3 months eh? (I realize I can hit back and check, but where is the fun in that?!)
