About your question about the Stahlritter
As for the
SpoilerCS 2/3 spoilers again & Sky SC onwardsStahlritter, Ennea actually sticks out like a sore thumb to me. I find her behavior as suspect as Claire's devotion to the man who murdered her family then helped her get vengeance on the other conspirators. The problem is the villains in Ao are all accomplices to everything the cult did. Mariabelle, Dieter, Ian, and Arios all benefited directly from the cult's activities. They all knew and allowed it to continue. And while they didn't exercise direct day to day hands-on control, Zero demonstrates the cult ended because they decided to end it, meaning they could have done so anytime they wanted, and did not.
And this guilt taints by association. Arianrhod knows all of this and chose to work with Mariabelle anyway, to make what was (by that time) their joint plan come to fruition. Whether she got involved before or after the cult's destruction is an irrelevant minor detail.
So Ennea was rescued from her awful fate by one of the people responsible for it in the first place.
Or is the series just going to continue ignoring this? Is the canon intended to be that they aren't really responsible for it?
In response to this, the best I can offer is:
The reason they decided to end D∴G (or manipulate the SSS into doing it for them) when they did and not sooner is that they needed a completed form of Gnosis to properly 'awaken' KeA and that's what the Cult unknowingly did for them while the Crois family was directly involved in the other preparations involving Orchis Tower and the Geofront's alchemical machinery.
There's something else I want to say about the subject more broadly but it gets into CS4 material. I'll just put it down here for now and you can read it whenever you're ready.
So I've just started playing Nayuta and I'm wondering how it compares to mainline Trails. Mainly in terms of things like overall length, missables and the like. Is chatting up the NPCs similar to the other games with mini stories and all that? Is it particularly difficult? I'm getting kinda old non-party Ys-like vibes so far (barely had any combat mind you, so I could be way off) and I remember Oath In Felghana was my first Ys and it kicked my ass. The translation seems serviceable so far, though I'm a little spoiled by Geofront's quality.
Edit: Well, at least now the ride-along Noi in CS is something to which I can say, "I understood that reference!"
About the length, it's a meatier game than I initially estimated from the way the levels are structured. It's a nice platformer and I found it pleasantly difficult on 'normal'. Then again, I'm not a good platformer, so take this with a grain of salt. NPCs are indeed similar to Trails, but don't expect the kind of gloriousness that is Anton & Ricky.
Fired up the game and my last save tells me 35 hours and 27/48 trophies. I played it mostly for possible connections to Kiseki so I'm certainly not going to complete the trophy list.
So now that Hajimari is out and people have completed it. Do we finally get a straight answer as to what is up with Beryl? Also. I realize the playable cast size is huge but does it have more dungeons like cs3's where you have to manage multiple parties for a near full lineup?
No, we don't get a straight answer about Beryl. There are a few occasions where you have to field multiple parties.
Sunnofa... beryl better not be the next happiness stone thing.

It's got some surprising length to it, moreso than you might expect from the Ys games it most closely resembles in gameplay like Oath. Though in fairness, Nayuta is more 'Zwei III' than anything else in gameplay terms, so if you've played Illvard Insurrection you'd know what to expect there.
The game is generous with important missable content since almost everything important is based on clearing the bonus conditions in stages which are replayable at will. There are some nice quest rewards but as long as you check the requests at the start of each Chapter you'll be fine there, and while there are some 'hidden' conditions for rewards they tend to be extremely obvious. NPC dialogue is much like Trails where they'll change over time and have their own mini-stories but as there are so few NPCs by comparison and they're very easy to locate, it's not nearly the hassle of, say, the Crossbell games.

You'll have a good few more of those before the game is done. I presume you've noticed by now the name of your protagonist? xD

Yeah, there are times when you'll have multi-party dungeons and/or multi-party bosses. Actually the main plot is structured so you generally don't have to juggle an unwieldy amount of characters at once. The side content however can force you to deal with the whole huge cast. Fortunately the game gives you an easily-farmable item that gives you EXP a la the items in recent Ys games, so you don't have to manually grind levels for everybody.

This image seems to be the most fitting response.
I've not played the Zwei games yet, but I'll get to them eventually! I'm enjoying this so far and, based on the first two major end of chapter bosses, it's got some pretty fun boss fights. I'm finding it tough to settle on what spells use for Noi, though. There appear to be quite a few of them, and I keep bouncing around just to level them.
To be honest, I'm quite thankful for the smaller amount of NPCs in this, considering CS4 is out in 2 weeks XD
Let me say this, though: Mr. Seemingly-friendly-academic-at-the-museum? NOT TODAY SATA-er, Kondo. Not a chance in hell do I buy that he's on the level.
I have indeed noticed Nayuta's name! Between that and his interest in stargazing...Cute reference, or something more?! That said, it's tough to imagine this game being in any way tied to regular Kiseki. Something about the setting, and the tone of the story and the storytelling in general just seems so far removed from the rest of the series. Like, if you never told me the title of the game, I'd never imagine it had Kiseki in the title. Well, aside from having Mira and the same measuring terms.

Yeah, and her spell list is going to keep growing. I know I eventually found a solid set that were my go-tos but with so much variety it takes some experimenting to find the ones you like best.

Oh yeah, it's very different in feel which is probably more to do with the 'Zwei III' thing than a lot else, since it's closer to that franchise in most respects including the writing. Though once you start digging into Nayuta a bit more, it'll start feeling a bit more Trails-ish.
Honestly, while I know and understand why many people find the writing in Nayuta lacking, I personally love its story one of the most in any Falcom game or any game period. Partly because it hit me at just the right time (I was in a difficult period, and it was also a relief to play something so optimistic after Ao) but I still love some of its themes.
More CS series spoiler questions that I thought of as I'm replaying cs3 now that I bought myself a new tv for CS4 mostly lol. These are all spoiler for CS1-Hajimari... Actually before that though. CS3 has a lot of backstory content that happens in between CS2 and CS3 that gets referred to alot regarding North Ambria. Is there some kind of seperate reading material or something I need to brush up on to get the most out of that kinda like the Ymir (did I get the name right? kinda nervous I didn't lol) chapter for CS1 that you're expected to read before cS2?
I know Crossbell is featured in Hajimari again quite a bit (is it in 4 too btw?), do we get to re-explore the residential district/entertainment district/admin district in those games? Or is it still like CS3 where you only get like half the city? It kinda sucks not being able to visit the residential district in CS3 because I like all content regarding a certain purple-hair'd young girl. Likewise I like the admin district since it's kinda short and sweet compared to east/central/harbour (well harbour isn't always bad but it can get pretty crowded sometimes and it rarely has characters I'm interested in)
How much Blueblanc do we get in cs4/haji? It just seems wrong he's totally absent in cs3 when cs3 has such a bit oroborus lineup and he gets around more than anyone else in the society normally.
Is there any explanation as to how yun ka fai is such a sword master? I mean we get these hyper talented people he trains that only master one style of the school out of 7 (or 8? I am confused about that part too, not that I care too much about that detail), yet somehow he is a master of all of them? Meanwhile his students are like close to the same level as Aurelia (minus rean I mean so far), yet she's supposedly already past the steel maiden in her prime? It just seems out of place some guy is such a master of masters, probably beyond the level of say millenia old goddess-made sacred-beast loli vampire witches and the like.

SpoilerI've asked about Beryl many times, but it just occurred to me that I don't think Edel shows up at all after CS2, and even in CS2 she has like no content at all other than a fight IIRC. Does she show up in cs4 or Haji? Did Falcom forget about her?I know Crossbell is featured in Hajimari again quite a bit (is it in 4 too btw?), do we get to re-explore the residential district/entertainment district/admin district in those games? There isn't really anything separate you need to (or even can) read regarding the stuff that happens in North Ambria between CS2 and 3, it all comes out in the latter game. Re-watching Star Door 2 from The 3rd will help contextualize some of the North Ambrian material, but that's background rather than something that focuses on the events of 1205 specifically.
- Between CS4 and Hajimari we have almost all of Crossbell State rendered in 3d including most of the connecting maps outside the city. This includes the administrative and entertainment districts but not the residential district or the Downtown area. The lack of the former area doesn't mean you'll be missing content related to a certain purple-haired girl though, it just means it's happening elsewhere.
- Bleublanc appears in CS4 and you'll get a good idea what he was up to during the events of 3. He doesn't appear onscreen in Hajimari but considering the offscreen role he plays, I don't think anyone's going to mind too much. xD
-While we don't get details on things like his training in Hajimari, we know that Yun Ka-fai is thought of as a living legend and we know that the Eight Leaves is a synthesis of a number of different Eastern styles. He spent a lot of time when he was younger traveling and studying and training before he started taking on disciples. I'd have to check the exact language from Hajimari but it sounds like he was probably in his 50's when he started teaching.
Oh, and there are technically eight Forms but only seven of them are actual sword forms, the eighth is an unarmed style that everyone learns so they aren't left helpless if they're disarmed or don't have time to draw their sword.
One more thing to come out of Hajimari that's relevant but not entirely spoiler-free
Something ive meant to ask for over a year but always forgot. What is up with shanshan's oddly unique character art with seemingly little importance?

Another candidate for the Grandmaster spot... just kidding. It seems that most of the prominent Crossbell NPCs with a notChina background have unique character art. Shanshan's father also has a unique design. I mean, how many bald characters even exist in Trails? Then there's that brother-sister pair who are the grandchildren of Mors, the head of the Business Owner Association(the place where Becky works in CS3), called Roy and Meiling. Roy has a small ponytail, a hairstyle that I've only seen on one other NPC, namely Lau, Cao's adjutant. Meiling is the only child NPC who wears clear eastern influenced garb and her hair is done in those piglets, except they are long enough to form a complete circle. I'm sure there's some specialized term for this hairdo, but I'm not exactly a stylist.
There's also that Quest in Ao when the SSS organizes a 'Miss Crossbell' contest and I think Shanshan is also a participant alongside other females with unique designs like Ries.
